RQQY 5-pack 48ft Container Wagon

Upon creation National Rail commissioned many new low deck, low tare, high speed container wagons for its new Intermodal business. NRC needed wagons capable of carrying 48ft containers especially. The wagon was designed by Australian National in 1994, and the prototype set REQY 7003 underwent trials in early 1994.

The 5 permanently coupled platform sets can carry either 5 x 40, 48ft containers or 46ft Reefers, or 10 x 20ft containers.

 

Builders: 18 sets were built by COMENG at their Rocklea, QLD plant in 1995. They are numbered 7067-7083.

Bogies: Bradken Kendall 70t Ride Control with 840mm dia wheels and TRIAX bogie mounted brake system.

Colour Scheme:

-                      As introduced, painted in standard NRC grey and marigold.

 

Modifications: Unknown if any modifications have been made.

 

Similar Vehicles: REQY was the prototype wagon for the RQQY.

 

Period of Service: 1995 to current

 

Operation: Used in NRC/PN Intermodal trains on the SG rail network.

 

Modelling:

No RTR or kit model is available, so it will need to be scratchbuilt.
