SQKF Container Wagon

These wagons were modified from RKQF/RKQX sheet steel wagons in early 2004, that Silverton Rail had purchased off Pacific National in 2003. The stanchions were removed and manual marine container twistlocks were fitted. They carry 2 x 20ft or 1 x 40ft container.

Interestingly these wagons were NQRX container wagons before they became NKQX/RKQX sheet steel wagons.

 

Date Introduced: late 2004.

 

Running Numbers: 60225, 60232, 60245, 60246, 60251, 60261, 60264, 60266, 60268, 60421 and 60422.

 

Length: 18.0m                         Tare:    18.2t                Capacity:         37.8t                            Gross: 80t      

 

Bogies: XCL – XCG.

 

Coding: Only ever been coded SQKF

 

Colour Scheme:

-                      The wagon is painted in the Silverton colours of ‘Homebush’ yellow with ‘Homebush’ blue ends and twistlocks are silver.

-                      Around 2008, they were painted light grey when under the ownership of Greentrains.

 

Period of Service: 2004 to current.

 

Operation:

            The wagons are used on Silverton’s container cotton trains from Warren/Wee Waa - Sydney and on their Sydney-Carrington ‘Tolls’ service.

 

Modelling:

-                      HO scale kit of the SQKF by IDR models is available from Casula Hobbies and Hornsby Hobbyland.

-                      Auscision Models produced a RTR HO model in 2015.
