CQBY Container Wagon

 

2nd batch CQBY new as delivered                    Auscision Models Collection

 

In June 2000, CFCLA received the first of this very successful 3 TEU (20ft Equivalent Units) container wagon. They were the first wagons built and delivered from the Qiqihar Railway Rollingstock Works in China. They have a skeletal deck, which is not flat but droops from the centre beam to the edges of the deck. They are fitted with 12 manual twistlocks, which allow them to carry 3 x 20ft or 1 x 40ft and 1 x 20ft container. The 2nd batch wagons are able to carry 48ft containers also.

            Qiqihar Railway Rollingstock Works in China

-                     50 were built in the 1st batch in 1999 and numbered 0101-0150

-                     75 were built in the 2nd batch in 2004 and numbered 2001-2075

Bogies: B-63, 3-piece low level CCSB bogie

 

Coding:

-                     They have only ever been coded CQBY.

 

Colour Scheme:

-                     The 1st batch is painted green with grey bogies. The codeboard was black with white lettering.

-                     The 2nd batch of wagons is painted in CF blue with grey bogies. Codeboard, as above.

 

Further Modifications:

-           The 2nd batch of wagons were built with slightly different handbrake, twistlock and outrigger arrangements

Operation:

            The 1st batch of wagons have seen use, on hire, to Austrac, Patrick PortLink, LVRF, QR National, ARG and Pacific National on intermodal services over the standard gauge network, east of Adelaide to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, as well as on rural NSW container trains.

            Members of the 2nd batch have seen use, on hire, to QR National, SCT and Pacific National over the standard gauge network from Brisbane to Perth

 

Modelling:

-           Auscision Models are to release a HO model in 2006.
