80ft JUMBO CONTAINER WAGON SUMMARY

Jumbo container wagons were built with a lowered deck height to handle TNT container Traffic, and came from three sources, NSW, Victoria, and Australian National. All wagons had straight sides as in regular wagons except for 22001 – 22032 range which had bowed ‘Wide body’ ends.

In 1987 NSW hired 30 VQDW wagons and they were recoded NQMW in the 60050 – 60079 range. Various changes have been made over the years and are beyond the brief scope of this summary, ie shunters steps removed, bogie type changed, etc.

 

In 1994/95 most of these wagons went in to NRC ownership and ended up with various codes, see following pages for crossmatching of codes; codes which are highlighted are recent sightings.

In November Aus_rollingstock Group lists, it appears that Freight Australia have aquired at least six of these wagons for their use and are  partially  repainted in the FA green, (RQPWs, 60064 , 60069 , 60074;  RQJWs 22042 , 22072 ,)(Christopher Jones sightings VQDWs 9 ,19 ,54 ); RQJW60025-M Green;
