The NQYY is a 2 TEU container wagon converted from NODY open wagons (and intermediates with a NODY parentage). They are used in general container, steel and containerized mineral concentrate traffic. Modifications made to the NODYs included removal of the sides and ends and removal of most of the deck.
Date Introduced: ANI Engineering (now Bradken Rail) converted 193 wagons to NQYY in 1998.
Running Numbers:
- NQYYs retained the former wagon numbers, which fall in the ranges 20201 – 20610, 20801 – 21000 and 85100 – 85158.
Length: 15.1 m Tare: 18.6 t Capacity: 59.4 t Gross: 78 t
Bogies: YCM
Coding:
- These wagons were coded NQYY upon conversion.
- Wagons fitted with standard ‘marine’ type automatic twistlocks are coded NQTY.
Colour Scheme:
- Freightcorp blue and yellow
Further Modifications:
- NQYY wagons are being modified to
NQTY by replacing the original ‘finger’ type of automatic twistlocks
with the standard ‘marine’ type.
Operation:
- Used in general intermodal
freight, particularly intrastate, steel traffic (including interstate) and
containerized mineral concentrate (eg Gollombola, north of Parkes). Up
until 2003, they were used extensively on Pacific National Sydney metropolitan
trip trains. After 2003 most of the fleet was stored pending upgrades and an
upsurge in traffic.
Modelling:
No model available, would need to be scratch built
