A couple new NHHF’s

A curve sided
aluminum-bodied hopper fitted with 4 transverse doors. The general arrangement
is similar to the NHTF type with the main hopper body is 10960mm long and the
hopper doors are arranged equally spaced along the length of the wagon. The
hopper doors have pneumatic power for unloading.
Builders:

150 built by Mittagong Engineering during 1982-83 and
were numbered 40700-40849.

NHHF as built (they were one of the first wagons to receive a 4-letter ROA code
from new!).
Modifications:
-
Due to a larger grain season in 1985/86 many converted
to grain hoppers and coded NGHF
-
At the end of the season most were converted back to
coal use and coded back to NHHF
-
During 1993 most were re-converted to grain hoppers and
coded NGHF
-
During 2006 fitted with ground operated roof hatches
and lost the end V’s drastically altering their appearance.

During 2007 104 of the hoppers had the roofs removed to
be used in coal use again although this time retaining the NGHF coding, the
remaining 46 hoppers were recoded NGWF.
Colour Scheme:

Original all over aluminum Silver with black bogies
with SRA red over orange L7 logos

When converted to Grain hoppers for the 2nd
time Freight Rail Grain emblems replaced the L7 logos

From about 1998 Freight Corp emblems started to be
applied
-
From 2004 Pacific National emblems were applied to some
hoppers although most just had the previous emblem painted over.

During 2006 104 of these were converted back to Coal
use but have retained the NGHF codes.
