NGRX  ‘Sunrice’ Rice Hopper

            These hoppers were converted from WHX Tulloch wheat hoppers in 1990-91. They were used to transport rice from the ‘Sunrice’ plant at Griffith to the Kellogg’s Cereal plant at Botany. They were replaced in this traffic by VHLY 100t FA rice hoppers when they took up running the contact on 2003.

 

Date Introduced:           1991

 

Running Numbers:        12 wagons were converted from the following,

 

            Contract 1 type (drop chassis rail) – 30577C, 30630G, 30635F and 30636Y.

             Contract 2 type (plain chassis rail) – 30687R, 30695H, 30702H, 30703Q, 30705L, 30720F, 30727W and 30736V.

 

Length: 14.3m              Tare:    17t                   Gross: 73t                               

 

Bogies: Any bogie exchangeable type, although no longer exchanged.

Modifications:

-                     No modifications were made to the wheat hopper to carry rice. However the hopper is pneumatically unloaded with the fitting of a pressure nozzle at each end bulkhead.

Colour Schemes:

            No special liveries were designed for this wagon, however 2 small ‘Sunrice’ logo stickers are attached to the hopper sides.
